79Wedding dress is a dress worn by bride during the day at her wedding. A simple wedding dress doesn’t contain many details and most of the modern style wedding dress today applying this concept in their design. The color and style for a simple wedding dress must meet the basic requirement of elegant, presentable and feminine. Some wedding dresses design nowadays still constitutes religion and culture of the wedding participants. However here I would like to share with you seven traditional wedding dresses in the world.
Western Wedding Gown - Unlike other elegant simple wedding dresses, western wedding dresses are usually in the color of pure white. White in this cases representing the value of elegant, pure and peace. Nowadays, brides from different countries prefer to wear these elegant simple wedding dresses in their wedding. This western style wedding dress has been universally accepted by them as their wedding costumes. Some even combined the features of the traditional costume with these simple wedding dresses. However, the modern concept of design has created lots of creativity on decorating white western wedding gown. For example like elegant but simple beach wedding dresses which easier for movement on the seaside with the straight strap cutting on both dress length are most welcome by western countries in these few years.
Japanese “Kimono” - “Kimono” is a traditional garment worn by Japanese women, men and children. However Japanese women also wear “Kimono” during their wedding ceremony. Kimono is not a simple wedding dress as it required lots of time of effort for sewing it. Not to compare with other simple wedding dresses, “Kimono” also required time to wear it up. Generally for a Japanese bride, they need to put on this traditional costume at least 5 hours before the wedding ceremony. Again, “Kimono” is expensive due to its materials if comparing to other cheap simple wedding dresses. Kimonos are in T-shaped straight line robes with long collars and wide sleeves. The work on this dress is not as simple as what we observed from other simple wedding dresses. “Kimono” often worn by women during special occasions and festivals but somehow other it still is worn daily in some Japanese families. Many of the fashion designers in Japan still source for way to develop a new version of “Kimono” which going to match the idea of traditional Kimono and modern simple wedding dress.
Chinese “Hanfu” - “Hanfu” is a traditional wedding costume worn by Chinese bride on her wedding. “Hanfu” also known as “Hanzhuang” or “Guzhuang” and sometimes explained in English they called it Chinese Silk Robe. Same as “Kimono”, “Hanfu” was not simple wedding dresses as it required time and effort for sewing it. The costume is fully flourished with golden string that draft out the main graphic of “long” and “fong”. Chinese believed dragon and phoenix are two best sign for the population. As such the art work on it make the simple wedding dress look complicated. Some costumes commonly thought of Chinese like “Samfu” and “Qipao” and these traditional dresses also for use when there’s any formal function been held.
Indian “Lehnga” - “Lehnga” is a kind of skirt worn generally in combination with Odhani tucked into it at the waist. “Lehnga” used as wedding dresses in some locations in India but not applicable for all. However, some Indian bride still prefers to wear “Sari” as their wedding costume comparing to “Lehnga”. If “Lehnga” considered as simple wedding dresses then what I would like to emphasis is “Sari” is much more complicated. These elegant simple wedding dresses have created lots of convenient for bride’s movement during the day of their wedding ceremony. “Lehnga” basically derived from the meaning of Sanskrit and standing for the limbs, waist and “anga”.
Korean “Hanbok” - “Hanbok” is the traditional Korean dress and usually worn by Korean brides during their wedding ceremony. Women’s “hanbok” are comprised of a wrap-around skirt and jackets. The dress is colorful and loose. This wedding dress same as Kimono and “Hanfu” was not a simple wedding dress that consist of detailed straight lines and smooth curves. Special occasions or ceremonials such as wedding commoners could wear colorful clothes and ornaments to their hearts content. If you really comparing this traditional wedding costume with different kinds of simple beach wedding dresses then you will see two totally different perspectives of wedding dress style. However, recently different styles of the “Hanbok” have been altered and modified to suit the taste and comfort for the youngsters.
Vietnamese “Ao dai” - The “Aodai” is a national costume worn by Vietnamese women on important occasions. This dress looks elegant, straight, simple and presentable. Besides it also consider one of the cheap simple wedding dresses in the world, cheap not in terms of the quality but cheap in the prices. This beautiful elegant dress has been justified as the traditional wedding dresses in Vietnam. Vietnamese bride would need to wear it during their wedding ceremony. However, the style worn today for “Aodai” is modernization of the “ao ngu than” and inspired by Manchu in the 19th century. “Ao dai’s” are classic examples for simple wedding dresses as it is only constitute a tight fitting silk tunic fabric fashion style. They are also equivalent garment for Vietnam man as their wedding gown called “ao gam”.
Malay “Baju Kurung” - “Baju Kurung” is the traditional Malay costume worn by Malay bride during their wedding ceremony. This simple wedding dress did required specific skills for sewing but it is not complicated as kimono and “Hanfu”. This dress is widely worn by women in Brunei, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Myanmar and Cambodia. However, beside “Baju Kurung”, other famous traditional costumes like “Kebaya” also worn by some Malay women on their wedding occasions. The baju kurung wedding gown has been sewing by a special fabric called “songket” which containing lots gold and silver string within. Many of the young designers has combined the fashion styles and concept for these two dresses and produced another type of costume called “kebarung”. Same to Kimono and “Hanfu”, these simple wedding dresses are not convenient for movement.
